Lone Star Awards ROTC Graduates

by Don Currie

Each year the Lone Star Chapter of the NDIA presents the Reginald L. Robinson Memorial Award to cadet recipients of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Award.  This Memorial Award of $250 supplements the NDIA ROTC Award, which comes from NDIA Headquarters in Washington, D. C. and is awarded at the same time to senior ROTC cadets who are attending universities in Texas.  The National ROTC Award consists of a certificate, medal, service ribbon and complementary one-year membership in NDIA.

Each of the committee members presented both the NDIA National ROTC Award as well as the Lt Col Reginald L. Robinson Memorial Award to a deserving cadet nominated by their ROTC detachment commanders.  The first presentation of the year was by Jere Craddock, on 12 April 2007 to Cadet Scott Little during the Texas Christian University ARMY ROTC Awards ceremony.  On 26 April, Don Currie presented the awards to Cadet Joseph Morrin during the USAF ROTC Awards ceremony at Texas Christian University.  On 27 April, RADM Jim Lair (ret) presented the awards to USA ROTC Cadet Austin Bass during the University of Texas, Arlington Military Ball.  Finally, on 28 April, Art Hawkins, presented the awards to USAF ROTC Cadet Jean Purgason during the Awards ceremony at the University of North Texas in Denton.  Pictures of the cadets receiving their awards are on the NDIA Lone Star Chapter website.

The ROTC Committee has diligently searched for ROTC detachments where the Lone Star Chapter could provide the $250 Robinson Memorial Award to USN and USMC ROTC cadets.   We are pleased to announce that, beginning next year, an award will be presented to a USN ROTC cadet at Prairie View A&M University and to a USMC ROTC cadet at Rice University.  If you would like to join the ROTC Award committee, contact Don Currie or Perry Cockerell
