MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE NATIONAL DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION NORTH TEXAS CHAPTER JUNE 15, 2005 The meeting of the North Texas Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association was held on June 15, 2005 at La Cima Club, Las Colinas, Irving, Texas. Wayne Trimmer, (“Trimmer”) President of the North Texas Chapter called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Perry Cockerell, Gerald Craddock, Jim Grant, Tom Hendricks, Kirk Kirkpatrick, Chester McKeen, and Wayne Trimmer. Proper notice being given and a quorum being present, the following business was conducted. Old Business. Trimmer reported on the last meeting in March 2004 where the Chapter hosted the Secretary of the Navy, Gordon England. The meeting was co-hosted with the Fort Worth Chapter of the Navy League. The event was well attended with over 200 in attendance. Treasurer’s Report. Trimmer gave a Treasurer’s report and reported on the financial condition of the Chapter. The balance in the bank was $7,916 as of May 31, 2005. Resignation. Trimmer reported that Matt Czarnecki with E.D.S. resigned from the board. The resignation was accepted. New Membership. Discussion was held regarding membership. The organization is now 609 members and has grown from 590 members a year ago. Eight new members were added in May 2005. The new members are: George Bais, Benjamin Bethke, Sarah Cooney, David Halforth, Roy Johnson, Karl Paulson, Brendan Ryan, and Dan Ward. ROTC Award. Jerry Craddock reported on the ROTC Award. He will be in charge of the award process this year. The award is a $200 savings bond. It is given to Army ROTC recipients at TCU and UTA. Perry Cockerell moved to change the award to a $250 honorarium instead of a savings bond. The motion was seconded by Kirk Kirkpatrick. The motion was amended to include Air Force ROTC recipient’s awards at the University of North Texas and TCU. The amendment was seconded by Kirk Kirkpatrick. Discussion was held that we check with SMU for possible recipients. The motion passed unanimously. Next Meeting. Discussion was held regarding the next speaker. An invitation to speak was given to Assistant Secretary of Defense, Paul Wolfowitz by Trimmer and by the Fort Worth Council of the Navy League but the invitation was declined. It was discussed that military speakers are a might be better draw than civilians. Financial Objective. Discussion was held regarding the financial objective this year. The goal was not necessarily to make money but to find speakers that would be more focused on the industrial base in the North Texas region with smaller venues, organized through the efforts of defense contractors. The Chapter can interface with the members through local seminars. New Board Members. Discussion was held regarding new board members. Future Meetings. Discussion was held regarding future meetings. It was discussed that we invite ROTC members and area commanders to any functions and that we cover the costs for them at the events. Meeting locations to consider would be in South Dallas, Mid-Cities and the new Hyatt at the Airport. The Chapter would have small VIP type meetings with North Texas Industry Executives with 100 – 150 people. VIP guests may visit one or two industrial plants. Wayne Trimmer will make further investigation into this and to report back at the next meeting. Assist in Establishing Women in Defense Local Chapter. Discussion was held on the Chapter to support establishment of the Women in Defense Organization to be chartered in North Texas. Women in Defense are an affiliated with NDIA. Trimmer is to consult in efforts to get the group started. Trimmer mentioned that there is support from the Office of the Governor of Texas. Election. Trimmer nominated Perry Cockerell, as Senior Vice-President of the NDIA Lone Star Chapter. The motion was seconded by Kirk Kirkpatrick. The motion was approved unanimously. Mr. Cockerell will assume duties as President in first quarter CY 2006. The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m. this date. By Perry Cockerell
